Local Resources

The Falmouth area is fortunate to have many caring people and service organizations that can help you and other members of the community when you have financial, health-related, or other needs. The Falmouth Service Center also partners with many local resources that provide assistance to residents of the Upper Cape.

A Baby Center
Provides at no charge, some basic items like diapers and clothing for infants and toddlers up to the age of three who live on Cape Cod and the Islands. To qualify for help, your family needs to meet the income guidelines of the federal WIC (Women, Infants & Children) program.

Barnstable County Human Services
The county's human services site provides a lot of useful and interesting information about Cape Cod, including several Community Directories dealing with fuel assistance, utility rights, and healthy eating.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cape Cod
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay matches children with caring responsible adult mentors. Their program helps local children reach their full potential. Their services are provided at no cost to the child.

Cape Cod Cooperative Extension
The Cape Cod Cooperative Extension is Barnstable County's Education Department. The mission is to improve the health and well-being of youth, families and communities; conserve and enhance natural and marine resources; and strengthen agriculture and food systems.

Cape Cod Hunger Network
A coalition of Cape food pantries and state and local agencies that help food find its way to hungry Cape residents. If you are in need of food or would like to contribute food, the site has a list of food pantries on Cape Cod.

Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority
Need to catch a bus? Check out the schedules on the transit authority's site. If you need, you can call for a bus pickup to take you to various destinations on the Cape and to 15 hospitals in the Boston area.

Cape Cod Military, Veteran and Family Collaborative
This centralized on-line listing is a collaborative network of the multiple organizations and agencies which provide assistance, services and information to military, veterans and their families on Cape Cod and the Islands. This website specifically identifies the services offered by each of the participating collaborative members in the areas of Housing, Jobs, Health, Family Support and Education. The Falmouth Service Center is a member of the Collaborative.

Cape & Islands United Way
The mission of the Cape & Islands United Way is to unite to improve lives, strengthen communities, and create lasting change on Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket. They do this through their utilization of their four IMPACT TEAMS: Health, Education, Financial Stability and Housing which are made up of citizen volunteers who take a deep dive into the needs and programs in their subject area. They review grant proposals, recommend funding decisions, and monitor projects throughout the funding period.

Community Action Committee of Cape Cod & Islands, Inc. (CACCI)
A private, non-profit organization that provides a variety of services to low-income individuals and families to help them improve the quality of their lives and achieve self-sufficiency. CACCI accomplishes its mission by providing services primarily in the areas of access to health care and public insurance enrollment; childcare services; homeless prevention; emergency shelter; and educational support services for seniors and their caregivers.

Community Health Center of Cape Cod
The health center provides primary health care, dental care, behavioral health services, and women's health services. The health center has offices in Falmouth, Mashpee, Bourne, and at Barnstable High School in Hyannis. The health center is a nonprofit organization and welcomes patients with MassHealth, Medicare, Commonwealth Care, private insurance, or no insurance at all.

Coalition for Children
Offering an education and support program for parents and early childhood educators with children from birth to school age. They offer workshops, parenting classes, play & learn groups, developmental screenings, community events, and links to local childcare providers. All of their services are free of charge.

Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA)
DTA assists low-income individuals and families with the following services: food assistance, job assistance, cash assistance, and emergency shelter. If you qualify for SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program - formerly food stamps), you can apply online or find your nearest DTA office.

Duffy Health Center
Duffy is located in Hyannis, provides integrated services to persons who are homeless or at risk of homelessness including: medical care, mental health & substance abuse, case management, and housing services.

Elder Services of Cape Cod and the Islands
Elder Services is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to serving older adults in Barnstable, Dukes, and Nantucket counties. If you are recently retired and seeking a volunteer opportunity or a senior needing nursing home care or other age-related services, Elder Services provides access, services and advocacy to assist you.

Fairwinds Clubhouse
Providing opportunities for friendship, support, employment, advocacy and education for people with psychiatric disabilities who live on upper Cape Cod. You can find information about how to become a member on the organization's site.

Falmouth Chamber of Commerce
The Falmouth Chamber of Commerce is dedicated to ensuring the year-round economic vitality of its member businesses and the greater community. It’s website provides access to member organizations as well as information about travel-related services in Falmouth.

Falmouth Housing Trust
Created in 1986, combats homelessness and promotes individual home-ownership for people with low to moderate income for the Town of Falmouth, and its surrounding areas. The trust builds affordable, deed- restricted neighborhoods on town-owned land that blend into their surrounding areas.

Falmouth Human Services
Provides many services, free-of-charge, for residents of Falmouth, including: Mental health and substance abuse counseling with priority given to those who are uninsured or cannot afford their health insurance co-payment

Behavioral health consultation services for Falmouth High School students and their families, including free clinical behavioral health assessment and referral services

Consultation services for seniors, including clinical assessment and counseling services for elders and their families by appointment at the Falmouth Senior Center.

Falmouth Senior Center
The Senior Center services are available to Falmouth residents aged 60 years and older. The Center serves approximately 4,000 seniors and offers numerous social activities and outreach services and programs. Senior Center staff and volunteers work closely with many town, county, and state agencies to provide access for seniors to a variety of services, such as: social activities, exercise classes, health-related programs, personal assistance programs, medical transportation, individual counseling, nutrition programs, and volunteer opportunities.

Gosnold on Cape Cod
The largest provider of addiction and related mental health services on Cape Cod. Gosnold treats addiction as a chronic disease that requires life-long management, and is often complicated by other medical, emotional and situational conditions. Individualized treatment, combined with twelve step principles, group therapy, family involvement and continuing care are the cornerstones of the Gosnold programs. An individual’s need to get clean and sober is Gosnold’s priority.

Heroes In Transition
A 501 (c) 3, not-for-profit organization which recognizes those who have served or who are serving our country, especially in the Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) conflicts, by providing appropriate assistance to those with special needs in four key areas: Home modifications for disabled veterans, Transitional support group therapy, Financial support for service families, and Assistance dogs for veterans. Their mission is to provide assistance that is not readily available from other local, state, and federal organizations.

Housing Assistance Corporation (HAC)
HAC provides emergency shelter and homelessness prevention assistance for individuals and families throughout the Cape. Additionally, HAC offers a range of services to help individuals solve housing issues, including: education, training and counseling; energy rehabilitation for low-income and market-rate properties; finding affordable housing for seniors, families and individuals; and opportunities for individuals to become homeowners.

Neighborhood Falmouth
A community-based membership organization that provides information and services to help members (who pay to join) live independently, safely, and comfortably for as long as possible in their own homes. Services, provided by a group of volunteers, include transportation, light home maintenance, technology assistance, home safety review, social activities, household accounting assistance, and telephone check-ins.

The Samaritans
A nonprofit volunteer organization that provides telephone services for anyone who is lonely or depressed, or even suicidal. Through listening and caring, Samaritans help to alleviate the painful feelings that may lead to suicide. The Samaritans answer phone calls 7 days a week, every day of the year.

South Coastal Counties Legal Services, Inc. (SCCLS)
Serving clients in Barnstable, Bristol, Dukes, Nantucket and Plymouth Counties and the towns of Avon and Stoughton in Norfolk County in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Attorneys and paralegals represent poor and elderly clients with high priority legal problems. SCCLS provides free civil legal services in the areas of housing law, family law, government benefits including social security disability, elder law, education law, and consumer law. SCCLS has staff who are fluent in Spanish and Portuguese.

South Shore Community Action Council
The SSCAC administers the Fuel Assistance program for Cape Cod that provides low income households with help paying home heating bills. Typically the program runs from November 1 until April 30 every year. Once your application is approved, both you and your primary heating company receive a written notification from SSCAC indicating the amount you have been approved for.

Town of Falmouth
If you are a resident of Falmouth you can learn about the town by visiting the town's website. There is information about each town department; meeting dates, times and agendas; how to get a beach sticker or pay your property tax; and information for visitors and businesses.

WE CAN (Women's Empowerment through Cape Area Networking)
We CAN provides a range of practical services to help and support women on Cape Cod. Services include information and referrals to appropriate resources on the Cape; mentoring and guidance; free legal services, including one-to-one legal consultations and workshops on family law. Additionally, WE CAN helps women with transitions such as divorce, career change, job loss, illness, retirement, isolation and personal loss.

Wings for Falmouth Families
Helping local families with financial assistance when they are experiencing a medical crisis or tragic event. Families with a child under the age of 18 facing a serious medical crisis must have a referral from the Falmouth Service Center to apply for assistance from this organization.
