A Message from FSC’s Director: Fall 2025

September is National Hunger Action Month.

Every year, we use this time to bring awareness to the critical need of our neighbors who report being food insecure. Did you know that in 2024, 34% of Barnstable County residents, (1 in 3) reported being food insecure? Residents are making tough choices every day–whether to pay the rent or feed their families; whether to pick up their medicines or buy food. This number was a 14% increase over the previous year according to the most recent Food Access Report from the Greater Boston Food Bank.

Here at the Service Center, we are grateful to be able to address that growing need thanks to our volunteers and donors. Fortunately, we operate in a community that donates their time and money to ensure we are able to provide food to everyone who walks through our doors.

In addition to food, we also provide a range of resources and programs to our client families. On September 15th, we held a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and officially opened the doors to our expanded facility, including our new FSC Community Closet! Over the course of the last 10 months, we built a bright new space that is open to clients enabling them to access clothing, shoes, housewares, books and seasonal items, all at no cost. Upstairs, there are new offices for community partners to use and to meet with our clients in a safe environment. We are grateful to everyone who helped us to create this wonderful space.

I hope you enjoy reading our Fall 2025 newsletter which celebrates the incredible volunteers, community partners and supporters who help us to provide a critical safety net for our neighbors in need. Thank you for being one of them. One of our Falmouth Road Race team members shared a great analogy. She said we are the AAA of our community. That is, when someone has an incident and needs help, we are there to get them back up and on the road again. Thank you for helping us to always be there to provide that safety net.
